When we decided to do a remote sensing project we were posed with the obvious question, which sensor type? Now since lot of work has already been done in the field of Infrareds we decided to try our hands with something new which had wider utility field, more applications and larger range and thus Ultrasonics were chosen.

Now bats have been using Ultrasonics for navigation from the time of their evolution. So do we humans need to learn a thing or two from bats about Ultrasonics. Not really! Although much is to be explored still a considerable amount of Research and Development has enabled us to do a variety of jobs.

Ultrasonic sensors are used in many fields like Defence, Sonar, Steel industries and even detecting ice on Helicopter Blades.

 THE IDEA

The motive of this project was to explore how different motion detectors operate and to successfully build and test an Ultrasonic motion detector. Since Sensors are an ever developing field we felt it necessary to develop something productive and which has a vast area of applications

This project can be implemented to solve problems for security demanding areas where motion detection proves extremely useful. Because all heated objects emit infrared radiation, the infrared is an excellent spectral region to use for object detection and tracking. Thus the project is helpful in surveillance too.

The relay added at the end of the Ultrasonic motion detector can be utilized in performing a large no. of jobs like distance measurement with the help of microcontrollers, intrusion alerts etc.

The setup is altogether cost efficient and simple to install thus having large commercial viability.
